1. What inspired you to pursue a career in beauty?

I have been a Certified Sisterlocks® Consultant since 2020, but I wanted to offer my clients more comprehensive services. Last year, I realized that to truly enhance their experience and add value, I needed to obtain my cosmetology license. This would allow me to provide additional services such as hair coloring, cutting, and facials, elevating the overall experience for my clients.

2. What are your career goals after completing your program? What do the next 1–3 years look like? Where do you hope to be in 10 years?

After completing my program, I plan to enroll in the Educator in Training program at my school. Over the next 1–3 years, I see myself transitioning to the classroom as an instructor, sharing my knowledge and skills with future stylists. In 10 years, I envision opening my own beauty school, "Established Roots." While the "roots" in the name initially refers to hair, they also symbolize family and staying grounded. I believe that stylists often play a key role in their clients’ lives, providing not only beauty services but also emotional support. My school would train students to address both the technical aspects of beauty and the mental and emotional well-being of clients, creating a safe, nurturing environment.

3. How do you feel about your program? Do you believe you made the right school choice? Why or why not?

How do I feel about my program? Well, it depends on the day! Some days I’m full of excitement, and other days I’m exhausted, but I always try to keep the bigger picture in mind and remember my "why." In hindsight, I know I should have visited other schools and compared options. However, I believe I made the right choice and am grateful for the experience and lessons I've learned.

4. Is there anything you wish you had known before starting beauty school? What tips do you have for future students?

I wish I had known that our graduation dates are subject to change. Even with perfect attendance, holidays, unexpected closures, and other factors can push your graduation date back. It’s been a challenge for me to adjust, but it’s part of the process. My advice to future students is to carefully consider the total cost of attending beauty school—not just financially, but in terms of time and commitment. I work full-time, and attending school in the evenings means sacrificing personal time and energy. For those enrolled in night school, there are no breaks during the year, so it's important to be prepared for the intensity of the program.

5. What would winning this scholarship mean to you and your cosmetology career?

I am incredibly grateful to Beauty Schools Directory for this opportunity. As a self-pay student, winning this scholarship provides significant financial relief and allows me to focus more on my studies without the added stress of tuition. This support brings me one step closer to achieving my career goals in cosmetology.
